- Abstract
- A determinant factor in an educational setting looking for social justice is the relationship between students, teachers, and the larger community making students aware of their fundamental role in society. In my research, the school community is the ideal place for motivating students to build community tights through learning processes in diverse creative practices among them photography. In this sense, the Photo Impact In/Out art project considers art as a strategic tool in which responsibility, collaboration, and reciprocity impact social structures. As art educator one of my responsibilities is to develop effectively and trusted teaching practices that allow us to identify the type of students’ classroom interaction and to examine the way it impacts their participation, their opinions, and the way they think and act. Ultimately, the Photo Impact In/Out art project’s aim is the recognition of how particular characteristics of the students’ communal life determine who students are and their cultural and social values. My project incorporates social justice theory to promote different ways of self-recognition through image rendering. Through this project, I sought to create a safe and creative classroom environment in which students are free to share or express themselves allowing open debates, self-discoveries, or new ideas.
