- Abstract
- The research I conducted was based off of an art therapy group I implemented as an intern at the VA, named Creative Expressions. To implement this group, I conducted research based off of art and the relation to its affect on the brain, PTSD , and dementia in Veteran populations. The image I created is based off of the worksheet I made for Veterans attending my group made with a paint app. The worksheet given was blank and the Veterans were instructed to write or draw words or images associated with their journey to recovery. We discussed how the road is not always linear and that there are often bumps or potholes in the road. We also discussed how sometimes we may reach our destination and then take a wrong turn and have to start the journey again; but that we always learn a lesson along the road. We also celebrated triumphs along the destination and how we start to learn tricks, tips, or new ways to reach our end goal. I found the Veterans responded well to this lesson and engaged in insightful and meaningful discussions.
