Abstract
"""Fofanny Dam from Slieve Loughshannagh, County Down, Ireland.
This image shows the wild, ancient and beautiful lands of the Mourne Mountains. However, on further observation, the waterbody in the background is a man-made dam built from concrete and the rivers and streams surrounding it are heavily polluted. I conducted a water quality assessment here and was broken-hearted to see the effect humans are having on nature. This research is what inspired me to pursue conservation biology and led me to studying Natural Resources at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. No matter how small you may feel, everyone is capable of working to make a difference. The title is a quote from the great Irish poet William Butler Yeats."""
