Abstract
In the classical flute world, most music performed by music major students is limited to Western European and American music. Through this scholarly essay, I wish to encourage students to not only get a glimpse of Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Etudes and Samuel Zyman’s Flute Sonata No. 2, but also to motivate students to learn pieces by Latin American composers. I suggest pedagogical tips to flutists, and this advice is based on my own interpretations and connects with my research into important background information. My interpretations have ties to nationalistic music and nationalistic composers, and it is up to the performer to decide whether or not to translate these pieces into the nationalistic idiom.
