Abstract

This is a cross-polarized microscope image of organic semiconductor crystals, which precipitated from solution. Though static, the ruby-colored crystals pictured appear to be in the process of moving, as if splashing or shattering. My research involves achieving a deeper understanding of how organic semiconductor crystals form and what causes them to adopt different characteristics. Organic crystal research can advance organic electronics, since organic semiconductor crystals can be produced at approximately 1/20 of silicon's cost.
