- Abstract
- Speech language pathology is an evolving field focusing on assessment, evaluation and treatment of various clientele including providing gender affirming voice and communication services to transgender individuals. The way we speak, the way we sound is a part of who we are. Our voice is our identity. Our voice gives us power to advocate for our feelings, morals, and values. This image, presented above, is presenting a lateral cut of the oral cavity and part of the neck which includes the larynx, our voice box, with phonetic symbols surrounding the mouth region. In an abstract way, it is signifying that everyone has a voice. A voice which one is comfortable vocalizing and communicating in. To provide the best in evidence based practice and person centered care, a literature review was conducted to explore the relationship between voice and identity in the transgender community.
