Abstract
In Kampala, Uganda, residents of informal settlements, like the one pictured, often face challenges related to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices. This can result in exposure to biological contamination which can lead to health problems in the community. In particular, people can be exposed to biological contamination through multiple pathways such as drinking water, hand to mouth contact, food, and soil, as highlighted in the image. With multiple opportunities for exposure, how can stakeholders choose where their efforts for improving health would be most effective? Our research seeks to address this question by quantifying health risks through these various pathways and working with community members to identify the most effective solutions.
