Abstract
A growing number of agencies and local governments are now making health data freely available to the public. The goal of this paper is to understand the current status of the open health data. This will provide guidance to the public and researchers for making better use of them. We collected 1,942 datasets from the health catalog on Data.gov and performed a preliminary analysis of them on their subject areas, data formats, data providers, availability, and other attributes. We found that the overall usage of the datasets on the plat-form was not high and suggested that providing certain interactive functions or feedback mechanism might help to boost the usage of open health data.
