- Abstract
For this data visualization, I was interested in seeing if I could uncover my mood for any given day by looking at the music I listened to. I collected data from about 2 and a half months of my YouTube history. For every song I listened to, I rated it on a “happiness scale” from 1 to 10. 1 is the saddest, and 10 is the happiest. Each line in the data visualization is representative of one song and lands on a number from the “happiness scale”. I determined each songs’ rating by considering things such as tempo, content (lyrics), and how it made me feel overall. The lines (songs) are sorted by date chronologically and have correlating colors with other songs from the same date.
Through this exploration, I have found that I can indeed tell my mood from a given day based off of the songs I was listening to. While collecting my data, I could even remember what was happening on certain days based off of my song choices. This exercise confirmed what I have always thought to be true: music is powerful and can tell us things about ourselves we may not have known.- Type of Resource
