Abstract
Presentation detailed changes in the relationship between the regulatory and voluntary programs within the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The P2 program's previous work with the regulatory programs focused on data analysis. The P2 program began to focus more on technical assistance to businesses and began to partner with internal regulatory programs to identify opportunities and build on existing relationships and connections. These efforts included providing pollution prevention training to regulatory inspectors to enable them to identify opportunities during inspections, gauge interest by the company, and refer them to a P2 specialist if they wished. The program also developed outreach materials to distribute during inspections. These materials included sector-specific P2 guidance and case studies to promote strategic and innovative P2 techniques. Finally, the P2 staff collaborated with regulatory inspectors to address P2 issues and went on joint site visits with them. Presented at the Day 1 Technical Presentations session of the 2017 Triple Regional Pollution Prevention Roundtable.
