Abstract
Computer generation of patterns for pattern perception research offers several advantages over other methods. A large number of patterna can be produced easily and quickly, and they appear in a standard format, but most importantly, the set of patterns generated by a cornputer following certain rules will constitute a random sample from a well-defined population.
