Abstract
Public institutions like the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana are largely funded through public means via government support and charitable donations such as alumni contributions. Within these universities, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) provide opportunities for the social, educational, and professional advancement of students. These organizations are often very effective in providing the support, resources, and networks needed to develop and grow. And because RSOs have high dependence on their respective alumni donations, it is important for them to give incentives to current students to donate funding in the future. This research project will explore and analyze current university students’ involvement in RSOs on campus and how their experiences influence the incentives to give back through future financial contributions to the RSOs. We want to identify the factors that greatly impact the decision to reinvest in the University in order to help our reader understand how student appreciation of their educational and developmental resources and its availability affect future donations to maintain or improve campus life.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
