- Abstract
- The image shown is that of two different situations- a block of Uranium situated at the center of the box, and three blocks of Uranium, Iron and Concrete near the edges. Cosmic ray Muons can be used to evaluate images of high density materials. While X-rays will be absorbed, Muons coming from the atmosphere, after passing through the Uranium, will be scattered as a consequence of Multiple Coulomb scattering, and the scattering data can be interpreted using different reconstruction algorithms to compute a heat map of the imaging volume. The image consists of 8000 boxes inside it, each being assigned a scattering density, based on the data using Point of Closest Approach algorithm. Muon scattering has been simulated from GEANT4 monte carlo, and the resulting data has been used to reconstruct the image.
