Abstract
Illinois has approximately 16,000 miles of state highways. Along those highways grows grass that is mowed by Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) workers. A team of scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including researchers at ISTC, is helping IDOT consider using these lands to grow native grasses that can be turned into a source of renewable energy.
