Provides an overview of the problem of plastic pollution in the aquatic environment, as well as a description of a cooperative project between Grand Valley State University and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to investigate the role of microplastics in the fate and transport of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The study is being conducted using water and sediment samples from Lake Muskegon, MI.
