Abstract
In 2008, the ICORE3 project was initiated by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. ICORE3 has a proven record of achieving significant energy and water conservation improvements in small, rural communities and businesses, primarily focusing upon the manufacturing sector. These communities are typically located in underserved regions of the state which are economically challenged or have not had good access to environmental assistance programs. ISTC engineers provide on-site technical assistance to improve efficiency in: water consumption, wastewater generation, energy use, hazardous materials, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to save money.
