Abstract
Exiting pedestrian infrastructure on county-owned roads in Dutchess County, New York does not match current demand. This study uses a Pedestrian Infrastructure Demand model to assign a score to each of the 345 road segments within the county. Pedestrian Infrastructure Demand (PID) scores are determined by pedestrian attractions (each road segment's proximity to common destinations and designated centers), pedestrian generators (resident and employment characteristics), and pedestrian safety hazards (threats to safe pedestrian use). This study considers road segments with a PID score greater than 50 out of a possible score of 100 to exhibit the highest need for high quality pedestrian infrastructure. 49 county road segments exceed this threshold.
