- Abstract
- Human induced climate changes have been having detrimental impacts on the environment of the earth and the whole natural system for decades. Efforts to reduce the impact of climate change are two prong- mitigation of the impacts and resilience to impacts. Building resilience to climate change impact is a relatively contemporary endeavor, compared to the ongoing mitigation efforts globally. This report has been commissioned by the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment (ISEE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) to conduct research on activities undertaken and methods employed by campuses (including signatories of Second Nature's resilient commitment) and other organizations to address adaption to climate change. There is no definitive road map for achieving this goal. Hence a detailed analysis of methods which are being employed nationwide by academic and professional organizations is a vital starting point.
