Abstract
This English I composition course incorporates multicultural studies as a meaningful way of instructing students in research skills, rhetorical skills (e.g., audience awareness and considering alternative perspectives), and critical thinking skills (e.g., intellectual empathy and fair-mindedness). As part of the course, students are required to complete a major writing project that requires them to (1) research a global issue from a non-U.S. citizen perspective and (2) present their findings in a compelling multimodal manner. The class theme is “global studies.” Accompanying the syllabus is a variety of distinct supporting documents for course administration.
