- Abstract
- Since early 1990s and particularly 2000s, researchers have been concerned with theory use in LIS publications, particularly in academic journals. Studies of theory use include theories cited, from the field or outside the field, the distribution of theory use in the subfields as well as new theories developed. This study intends to identify the status of theory use in LIS field in Taiwan and to reflect what we can learn from the global view. The research questions are: 1) How theory has been applied in different types of article? 2) What is the distribution of research subjects in LIS journals in Taiwan? 3) What is the level of theory use in different research subjects? This study analyzed a total of 341 articles in five LIS core journals published between 2010 and 2015 in Taiwan. Content analysis was applied, an analytical framework was adopted from previous research, including Pettigrew & McKechnie (2001) and Jeong & Kim (2005). The preliminary results include types of articles, subject distribution, level of theory use. A comparison and contrast between local and global LIS development in terms of the level of theory use is discussed.
